Catechist Certification
"The content of faith is the heritage of the whole Church. It is the privilege and responsibility of the entire people of God to preserve the memory of Christ’s words and actions and to hand on the content of this faith to future generations." ~ National Directory of Catechesis
Certification Program for Catholic School Teachers
All K-8 teachers and high school religion teachers are to maintain a current certification
by the Archdiocese of Seattle every 5 years.
Foundations of Our Catholic Faith
Parishes may offer the Catechist Certification Program as their adult education
classes under the title Foundations of Our Catholic Faith. The basic scripture,
theology and church history information is very useful in the Church's mission to
evangelize its people. These classes help ensure that everyone has the opportunity
to hear the gospel message, understand the Church's teachings and grow in the fullness
of what it means to be a disciple of Christ. When offered through this program full
credit toward certification is received.
Pastors shall approve the catechists prior to their appointment to the position
of catechist.
